Birth Parents > Services & Fees
If you choose to make an adoption plan for your child, your counselor will work with you in the following ways:
Services
- Assist you in completing social and medical histories on yourself and the birth father.
- Provide you with profiles of prospective adoptive families.
- Accompany you to a meeting with the adoptive family.
- Visit you in the hospital.
- Arrange and facilitate an entrustment ceremony in the hospital where you and the adoptive family will have the opportunity to share special thoughts with each other before you place your child with them. However, this is your choice and there won’t be an entrustment ceremony unless you want one.
- Accompany you to the lawyer to sign the adoption consents no earlier than on the eighth day after your child is born.
- Provide support and counseling to you until the adoption is legalized in court.
- Refer you to other counselors in the community after the adoption is legalized
Fees
Birth parents DO NOT pay any fees for adoption. This is mandated by law under Section 175 of the Child and Family
Services Act, R.S.O., 1990
